The Story of Abigail

It was late at night and I was having a difficult conversation. I was going over the need to work together and felt that my efforts were not being valued. Suddenly, I missed the mark and gave up; I became selfish and hurt those who cared about me. Confessing how easy it can be for me to fall into pride and selfishness is hard. I start thinking I can overcome by my own strength and boy; how wrong I can be in those moments. I very much was like Nabal from 1 Samuel 25. We learn about the story of Nabal and Abigail, King David’s wife, in 1 Samuel 25, and how she was able to overcome pride and selfishness with wisdom. God blessed and honored her decisions by focusing on serving God first.

Upside Down Series: The Story of Gideon

The Story of Gideon

Welcome back to the Upside Down Series! To read our previous entry please click here.

Growing up I used to doubt my very own shadow. I wasn’t sure if I was good enough or if I would be able to accomplish what I would set my mind to. I didn’t think God would want to use me and even thought I was damaged goods. I felt in many ways like the beginning of the story of Gideon in Judges 6-8. In this story the timid farmer becomes the commander over the Israelites. When it seems like God can’t use us, He shows up and defeats a whole army for us.

Upside Down Series: The Story of Joseph

The Story of Joseph

It’s easy to trust that everything will be well when everything is going well, but what about trusting when everything is going wrong? It feels a lot harder to trust right? We will go over moments in the Bible where God turned things upside down. When nobody thought there would be an answer, God gave THE answer. God loves doing this so much and we often forget how He has repeatedly done so. The story of Joseph in Genesis 37-50 is the first one that comes to mind. The favorite child turned slave. When it seems like it can’t get any worse, God says, “wait a minute” and moves in incredible ways.

How To Walk Through A Spiritual Drought

I first heard about Christ when I was 15 years old. True, I had heard of His name before, but the first time I truly understood what His name meant was when I joined a youth group in high school. Then came the world and I stepped away from what I had experienced there. I was captivated by all the different things that everybody around me was doing and I lost my way. I did not pick up a bible, say a prayer, or attend a church for nearly 5 years. Continue reading “How To Walk Through A Spiritual Drought”

What Are the 9 Fruits of the Spirit?

Today I want to go over two verses in Galatians 5. Verses 22 and 23 go over the Fruits of the Spirit. The Fruits of the Spirit are the product of a well-developed spirit and reflect the growth of a believer. In nature, the fruit grows as long as the plant grows and falls if the plant goes dormant. This too can happen to our spirits and that’s why it’s so important to know the 9 Fruits of the Spirit, so we can be aware of our growth. These fruits are a choice that we need to make every day and just like in nature, they are a product our growth and self-care. Continue reading “What Are the 9 Fruits of the Spirit?”

Absolute Confidence

There are times I feel on a drought, as if no matter where I turn to, I still find no answer to what I’m looking for. It feels like being stranded with no assurance of what’s about to come next. Have you ever felt this way? When I feel this way, I to go to verses like the ones in Matthew 14. In verses 22 to 33, the Bible shares the story about Jesus walking on water. This story shows that when we believe and have faith, we can achieve what we set our minds to do, no matter the obstacles that we may encounter.

Today I want to share with you three thoughts that can help you have absolute confidence in what’s to come: Continue reading “Absolute Confidence”

Who is God?

In order to answer this question, I need you to join me in asking yourself who am I? Do you know about yourself or do you know yourself? And it’s ok if you don’t know the answer, I still ask myself this question often. The reason I’m starting with this question is because we often get lost in the perception of the image we have created of ourselves and forget about the essence of who we are. Knowing who God is works the same way. I must be honest, I’ve experienced times in my life when I’m uncertain and forget who God has been in my life. We get carried away by hearing about God and forget to actually take the time to learn who He is. Continue reading “Who is God?”
